

There is indeed a set master map - I linked it in my above comment. My curiosity was whether the base map is an actual known asset in the data, which I figured /u/crystalynn_methleigh might know because they seem to be quite familiar with game internals. But also there are a lot of smaller-scale variations. It seems like at least the channel-cuts are applied differently to base map. (first: cafJvH5ZuL second: DMi75FlVdF) You can see they share the distinct "3" shaped island a bit north of spawn. But the second has much more landmass in the East, where it joins other land, while in the first there is an ocean of several wide channels intersecting, obliterating that part of the land. One has a large lake, while in the other, this is split open on the west side by a wide channel making separate islands. I have two maps which started in nearly the same "master map" area, but they are very different.

Yeah, checking my worlds against the "master map" is exactly what reveals a lot of practical differences, even though the rough large-scale structure is similar.
